Write to your MSPs and ask them to make sure the housing bill doesn’t leave students and apprentices out in the cold!

The Housing Bill making its way through the Scottish Parliament is a great first step towards tackling the housing crisis but it falls short of helping all students and apprentices and we can fix that.

Student accommodation has been excluded from the bill so rent controls and tenant protections won’t help all student renters! And there’s a risk rent controls will be weakened and won’t bring prices down to affordable levels.

The bill also does not address the unfair requirement for renters to provide a ‘guarantor’, someone who owns property or earns a certain amount of money to guarantee that they will pay their rent, which causes huge problems for the most vulnerable students and apprentices.
