More apprentices in Scotland to be paid the Real Living Wage

Apprentices in the Scottish public sector to be paid the Real Living Wage of £10.90 as of 2023/24, Scottish Government announces.

Ellie Gomersall, NUS Scotland President, and the leadership team of the National Society of Apprentices responding to the announcement today said:

"Buried in the political noise of today there was an announcement about pay policy in the public sector in Scotland.

"It included the line that’s becoming pretty familiar now '…will be required to pay the real Living Wage at £10.90 per hour, including for internships and Modern Apprentices.'

"This is what politics needs more of. Promises made at election time turned into action.

"We know that sometimes it takes time to see change but bit by bit we’re seeing apprentices in Scotland being paid enough to live on. Scotland’s showing the way. Every apprentice deserves to be paid the living wage."
