History

NUS Scotland was established in 1971, as part of the National Union of Students (NUS), building on 50 years of NUS history and centuries of student representation in Scotland.

Students have had a voice in Scottish universities since the fifteenth century, with the antecedents of today’s students’ associations founded in Scotland, from 1737, and the UK’s first Student Representative Council founded in Edinburgh in 1884.
